Awake NY x Escuela de golpes duros
Originario de Manzanilla en Trinidad, Ortner "Von" Murray emigró a Nueva York a finales de los años 60. En 1970, Von abrió una tienda de adoquines en Northern Boulevard en Corona, Queen, después de aprender por sí mismo a arreglar zapatos. Llamó a la tienda "Von's", su apodo de infancia.
Durante la siguiente década, el espectáculo pasó de reparar zapatos a vender zapatillas y ropa. El hijo de Von, Gerard, se interesó por la moda y, en los años 90, el equipo de padre e hijo lanzó School of Hark Knocks, una marca de ropa con sede en Corona.
Las camisetas y sudaderas con capucha de la marca se volvieron icónicas adornadas con las etiquetas distintivas "SOHK" y "Queens7".
La popularidad de la marca se extendió por los cinco distritos de Nueva York y finalmente alcanzó popularidad mundial y preparó el escenario para muchas de las marcas actuales.
Hoy, School of Hard Knocks revive como parte de la familia LegacyHistoryPride dirigida por el nieto de Von, Tahir "Mr. Legacy" Murray.
