Morehouse Student Reimagines Clothes as a Canvas for His Art

Written by our Founder + Creative Director, Tahir “Legacy” Murray

A few weeks ago, I stopped by the Morehouse College with over 300 pieces of unreleased LHP for a spontaneous pop-up I announced on my Instagram. The idea was simple... invite creatives and artists on campus to come through, pick up a few items, and rework them into their own worlds.

One of those artists was Dante Grange. I’d met Dante before and had become familiar with the range of creative work he produces. He showed up to the pop-up, grabbed a few pieces, and went to work. A few weeks later, he shared images of how he had reimagined the garments, turning them into a canvas for his own illustrations and creative expression.

It’s always powerful to see what people, especially students, can do when they’re given even a small amount of support and freedom. The creativity within Black colleges is beyond measure. Something as simple as dropping off shirts and polos can spark entirely new ideas and open up new worlds.

HBCUs already teach us how to make something out of what we’re given—and time and time again, that talent proves it knows exactly how to turn opportunity into impact.

Dante Grange, a native of Laurelton, New York, has shaped his journey at Morehouse College through a growing commitment to fashion design and community building. During his time there, he developed a vision rooted in reciprocity, one that emphasizes mutual support, shared growth, and intentional connection.

In 2023, he founded Fairxchange, a platform designed to cultivate fellowship among individuals seeking guidance, purpose, and direction. Through Fairxchange, Dante offers more than limited clothing pieces; he creates spaces for meaningful dialogue and outreach, encouraging members to pursue their goals with clarity and confidence. The brand functions as both a creative outlet and a support system, reinforcing the idea that success is most sustainable when built collectively.

For Dante, art is defined by its ability to reflect passion and create impact. His designs carry layered meaning. One polo highlights themes of camaraderie and militancy, symbolizing the unity and commitment of those invested in the community. Another design pays homage to the history of Black art, grounding the brand in a broader cultural narrative.
