The Lady Bison's MEAC Title Win Reaches far Beyond the Court
March 12th, 2022, is a day we at Legacy History Pride won't soon forget. As a graduate of the historic Howard University, Tahir Murray, Mr. Legacy himself could not be filled with more pride seeing the Howard Lady Bison win the 2022 MEAC Title. Their victory sent the Lady Bison to the big dance, the NCAA Tournament, for the first time in 21 years since winning their first MEAC title in 2001.
All season long, these outstanding student-athletes were the portrait of Black excellence, dedicating themselves to their classwork, athletic development, and commitment to each other. The Lady Bison were led to victory in part by the remarkable talent and skill of sophomore Destiny Howell. Howell recorded a career-high of 25 points in the MEAC title game, and was subsequently named the 2022 MEAC Most Outstanding Performer—a much-deserved title! These Howard University Lady Bison not only made history, but also cemented their extraordinary legacy within Howard Athletics.
LHP continues to celebrate their historic win and title as MEAC Champions. We are tremendously proud to collaborate on a historic campaign that celebrates Black women in college sports. After all, this is what Legacy History and Pride mean—their legacy, our history, and pride we share in their accomplishments is an important part of what moves the culture forward.
Not only did the Lady Bison make the Howard Community proud, these women also set a standard for encouraging Black athletes to never limit themselves. Much like LHP, Lady Bison have a solid foundation and belief in themselves—the key to success in all aspects.
Legacy History Pride celebrates accomplishments that move the culture forward by shining a light on current events at black colleges and universities. When we raise our voices, we bring recognition to HBCUs where it is far too often not found.
