Catching Up With TSU's TAMYIAH NIELSEN

TSU’S 79TH SGA PRESIDENT ON HER EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS AND WHAT MAKES TEXAS HBCUS SPECIAL

Editor: Jayna Renna

Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? I'm Tamyiah Nielsen, originally from Omaha, Nebraska. What year at Texas Southern are you? Senior year! So ready for that spring graduation. What are you involved with on campus? Serving as the 79th SGA President, plus I'm in the Delta Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Thomas F. Freeman Honors College.

What's special about HBCUs in Texas? The rich history and culture, which is driven by the students and people who make them what they are. The biggest difference between freshman year you, and who you are now? Way more involved, and I've really grown into speaking up and connecting with people. What's something about campus that's underrated? Fried Fish Friday in the cafe, no question!

I can't go to campus without my.... Laptop, absolutely. What's the most unserious reason why you've ever missed a class? I skipped a class freshman year to go see Megan Thee Stallion on campus. What will you miss most about Texas Southern once you graduate? The people, for sure. TSU really feels like one giant family cookout.
